Excuses, Excuses....

I could ramble off a million excuses to you as to why it's been so long since I have posted but, I am going to be really honest with you...

The main reason I haven't posted is because I haven't really wanted to. I haven't had much motivation to sit down, upload pictures, and update you on my life...I have spent the last month trying to survive the last few weeks of school and finalize plans for our wedding, which is less than 2 months away!!! So honestly, all I want to do is...

Right after my final race of the Heartland 39.3 series I had every intention of recapping the race (Running with the Cows) but then I realized race recaps are not my strength...I am not good at taking pictures before/during/after the races...and honestly I swear I black out between the starting line and finish line...so really there is nothing to recap :)

If you want to read about the race (and have a good chuckle) head on over to my friend (and fellow KC runner's) blog (Adventures of Middle-Aged Drama Queen) Sherri does an excellent job recapping races. Her race recaps/reviews always have me laughing out loud so after you read her RWTC's review check out all of her other posts...I promise you won't be disappointed :)

Then after the final results for the Heartland 39.3 series were posted, I just knew I HAD to post about my top 15 finish!! But again, I just couldn't find the motivation or the words to create a post...which is sad because when I signed up for this series my goal was to run ONE of the races at a sub 1:45 and I even threw out the wacky idea of running all 3 at a sub 1:45 and possibly placing in the top 15 among women...

Well...I did it...I set this ridiculous goal that I thought was a total long shot and I did it! I was/am ecstatic...but I wasn't quite sure how to put that excitement into words. I am good at talking about my goals...but when I reach them it's hard for me to find the right words to celebrate :) The more time that passed I started to feel like it was too late for a recap or a post dedicated specifically to this series...so here I am...just giving you a boring ol' update :)

In other news...I have joined a gym for the summer and I have taken a few spin classes...and let me tell you something...spin class will make even the most in shape person feel inadequate. I can run for days...but put me on a spin bike and I do everything I can not to fall off and die ;)

I have also committed to the Runner's World Run Streak (#RWRunStreak) and I will be running at least one mile every day for 41 days! I did this last year (and vowed to never do it again) but after an extended break (a few weeks of minimal to no running) I thought this might be the best way to get back at it and build up some base mileage for marathon training which starts mid-June.

Don't worry...I will still be taking rest days...because you know how much I love those!!! I will just run/walk a quick mile on those days and spend lots of time stretching!

Alright, that is all I can muster for today...I'm headed over to a friend's house for lunch...and I am running there....gulp! It's about 6 miles...but I haven't charted it out. I hope it's not too hilly because boy am I sore from Pilates on Tuesday (another class that makes me feel grossly out of shape!)

Hopefully I will be back tomorrow!!! No promises though ;)

Bridal Shower

You know those moments when you sit back and wonder how you got so lucky? Well, pretty much every wedding event was a moment like that for me. I seriously have the best friends and family a girl could ask for.
One of those moments was my first bridal shower. My friends went above and beyond to throw me an absolutely beautiful shower! I could clearly see how much time and effort they put into making this day extra special for me...I say this all the time...but I truly have the BEST friends!

The food was incredible! All my favorite things...and I may or may not have eaten a dozen mint chocolate chip cookies ;)

Mason Jars to be filled with Sangria :)

Gorgeous decorations that I got to take home with me :)

The banner on the fireplace was definitely one of my favorite little touches...it says "The Smiths"

Just a candid shot while we got ready for a game....

They tricked me...as people were arriving they had to fill out a note card with a memory on it. Later they read the cards aloud and I had to guess who wrote the memory. Easy right? Well...not as easy as I expected especially since many of the memories included the same people...my guessing game was not on point. For each miss I had to pop in a piece of Double Bubble gum. By then end I had at least 6 pieces in my mouth...a choking hazard for sure!

After the embarrassment of my performance in "Guess that Memory" my friends announced there would be another game...this time I would have to guess the answer to a series of questions the girls had asked AJ...

The best part of this game was that they had incorporated Star Wars-which is a running joke having to do with the Star Wars wedding I have had planned for years ;) The good news with this game is I know my Han Solo pretty well and only missed 2 questions...and clearly it's because he was confused ;)

I was blown away by the incredible gifts! My friends are some of the best around :)

The whole day I felt so loved :)

My favorite ladies from work came to celebrate, even though they had just thrown me a shower the week before. My co-workers are better than yours :)

This girl, Queen matchmaker extraordinaire, really deserves all the credit for this party...Lucky for me I met her 4 years ago and she decided she just HAD to set me up with her brother-in-law...Here we are now and we get to be sisters!!!

My sister (or sister-in-law...but after 10 years in the family she might as well be my sister!)

My maid of honor...my Goose :)

My newest friend, Kelly, braved a new crowd and came to her first bridal shower ever just for me :) See...I told you I am lucky!

These girls just make life better :)

To my lovely hostesses...thank you for everything and seriously....I am so glad we are friends!

So you can clearly see how spoiled I am and that I have the very best friends around. It was the absolute PERFECT day and it makes me wonder what I did to deserve such amazing people in my life :)

Think dry thoughts....

I may or may not say this every Friday, but....TGIF! What.A.Week!!

I've never in my life seen a more accurate e-card. May is tough when you are a teacher! The students have checked out, (their teacher might be halfway checked out too) we are scrambling to finish up projects, field trips, etc. This week was especially tough on me since I was staying with some kiddos for the week...I am beat!! Being a mom to 3 kiddos is a lot of work! Kudos to all the moms out there!!

Luckily, my students and their parents spoil me rotten and surprised me first thing this morning with this fun (and incredibly generous) gift card bouquet for Teacher Appreciation week! I am so incredibly lucky to work at the school I do. The kiddos and the parents are definitely the best of the best :)

This weekend is the last race of the Heartland 39.3 series and I have been obsessively checking the weather every day hour. It changes every time I look at it...one day minute it looks like it might be okay...and then the next it looks like this...I think it's safe to say that there is a good chance we will be getting rained on.

I don't mind the rain and I have been trying not to let it get me down...but what I don't like are FB updates like this one. They might cancel the race? WHAT?!?! ~Insert panic attack~ How in the world will I complete the Heartland 39.3 challenge if they don't have the race? I have worked so hard up until this point and I would be absolutely devastated if they cancelled it :(

A few people were commenting on the status saying "can we still get the bling?" I know many people run races for "the bling" but why would you want it if you never ran the race? I won't even wear the shirt if I don't run/finish the. Honestly, I don't want the damn medal...I just want to run the race...and then you can go ahead and give me the medal ;)

I can definitely tell I have been tapering this week...yesterday and today especially.

Last night I had this for 4th meal...Elbow pasta, broccoli, and parmesan cheese. I've never been pregnant...but I imagine pregnancy cravings and taper cravings are very similar. If I have my mind set on something...I HAVE to have it!

Then, last night I woke up around 3AM because of the storm and I was STARVING! Again, I couldn't think about anything else except a bowl of cereal...I needed it, so naturally I got up and had  pre-breakfast ;)

So basically, I need you to think dry thoughts and do your non-rain dance tonight for me...the last 5 weeks of racing/tapering can't be for nothing. I NEED to run that race tomorrow...If it's cancelled you may or may not want to avoid me for the rest of the weekend ;)

Have you ever had a race get cancelled because of weather?

How will I go on with my life if it does get cancelled? ;)

Super-hero status

 Happy Cinco de Mayo!

While there isn't a margarita machine in the lounge...our PTA did spoil us with a Cinco de Mayo themed luncheon in the library today. I really could go for a margarita today though...4 more days until the race is over and I can enjoy an ice cold marg...or 5 ;)

Until then I will continue to behave myself and walk away from all the delicious treats...Lucky for me, my class made it easier to say no. Monday morning the PTA provided coffee and donuts in the lounge and my class brought me this instead! Healthy treats and Nuun...they are kind of the best ;)

While they are treating us all like super heroes this week...this morning I really felt like I earned that title. I am nannying this week for an adorable little family at my school and we had to be at school at 7:25 AM this morning for our early release meetings...which meant I had to get up early to run, get myself ready, and get 3 kids ready for school (lunches packed, planners signed, etc)

While it wasn't easy I am proud to say I did it!! I got my 3 miles in at 5AM, got myself showered, did my hair (WHAT?!) had lunches packed, got the kids up and ready and we walked into my classroom at...wait for it...7:15!! Not only were we on time...we were early! I may be a little bit too proud of myself...especially since the kiddos I am watching are angels and went really easy on me this morning :)

That's all I have for today...I am really tired so I will just leave you with this...

I have had so many incredible teachers over the years. Many who inspired me to be the best person/best teacher I can be. I hope that the kiddos I have taught/will teach will look back and feel the same way about me someday :)

Weekend Update: Bridal Shower

Poor Monday...nobody seems to be a fan. I'm not usually a fan of Mondays however, with only 3 more Mondays until summer vacation and today being the first day of Teacher Appreciation week I can't help but enjoy it just a little :)

I mean who doesn't want to walk into work and see this first thing? :)

What?! A new Keurig for the lounge?! A teacher's dream come true!

Donuts...that I promptly walked away from ;)

And my darling door decoration :)

As you can see the parents at my school really go above and beyond to make sure we feel celebrated and appreciated so I am definitely looking forward to the fun they have planned for this week!

The one thing that will be tough will be saying no to all the delicious sweets and treats. I would usually indulge, but the LAST race of the Heartland 39.3 series is this Saturday and I don't want to throw away all my hard work and healthy eating 5 days before race day! Don't worry...I will still have a small treat each day ;)

It's Monday, so as usual I am linking up with Tara over at Running 'N' Reading for her Weekend Update.

Running 'N' Reading

This is technically not an update of my whole weekend...just the best part...my bridal shower :)

Now, I have been to my fair share of bridal showers...I guess you could say that I am a seasoned wedding veteran...but this time...the shower was for me :)

As if that alone weren't enough to make me feel special, my friends went above and beyond to throw me an absolutely beautiful shower! I could clearly see how much time and effort they put into making this day extra special for me...I say this all the time...but I truly have the BEST friends!
