26 Weeks: Weepy McWeeperson

I don't feel like I am getting that much bigger...but my clothes said otherwise this week :)

How far along?
26 weeks

How big is baby?
Kale or a bowling pin  ~14" and ~1.68 lbs

What's baby up to this week?
Baby is continuing to put on fat, and his eyes are open now so he will be more responsive to light.

Symptoms?

Nothing worth noting...besides an expanding mid-section and some minor Braxton Hicks contractions (my doctor said this was completely normal as long as they are not painful)

Maternity Clothes?
Mainly pants and leggings...but I got a few maternity tops for Christmas, and I have to say it's nice to have clothes that are fitting properly.

Sleep?
I had a relentless cold early this week and lots of congestion and that made a few nights pretty tough to sleep.

Missing Anything?
Breathing out of my nose and being able to take cold medicine.

Craving?
Not much...my cold made my appetite hit and miss.

Aversions?
Nothing!

Emotions?
I think I've cried more this week than I have in my entire life...I'm not a crier...but this week tears flowed pretty freely. Happy tears, sad tears, mad tears, tears just because it felt good...I attribute some of it to being sick and overtired...but I'm sure the hormones didn't help

Movement?
Still my favorite part of being pregnant. I love feeling lil' man moving around in there...although, some of his lower kicks are not the most comfortable.

Best Moment of the week?
Christmas and lots of family time is the obvious choice here!

Pregnancy Brain Moments?
Words are just so damn hard these days...I referred to AJ as the "coroner" of our Fantasy Football League instead of the commissioner, and mistakenly got Subaru and Suburban confused. Good thing my family loves me anyway :-)

Looking forward to?
A low key NYE with AJ

Projects/Baby Gear purchased?
We have the crib, changing table, and rocker all ready to go...so now it's time for the fun stuff! This week my mom and I spent no less than 6 hours digging through fabric to find the PERFECT combo for Baby Smith's quilt. I can't wait to see how it turns out!

Running?
Above freezing temps and winter break made for some excellent running this week! I even ran 5 miles one day this week...it's not far, but farther than I have run in almost 2 mos so that felt pretty good. I have some soreness in my hips and pelvis after a longer run outside, but it's not bad and doesn't last long, so that's good.

25 Weeks: Knocking on Wood

The weeks just keep ticking by...faster and faster each week it seems!

How far along?
25 weeks

How big is baby?
A head of cauliflower or a Baseball glove ~13.5" and ~1.46lbs

What's baby up to this week?
Baby Smith's lungs are continuing to develop and he can now tell which way is up and which way is down.

Symptoms?
This past weekend I was bragging to AJ that I haven't really experienced many of the symptoms my app told me to expect at this point...and then it was like the universe tried to teach me a lesson. I had horrible heart burn and back pain all day Sunday...but other than that I have been feeling great! Next time though...I'll knock on wood when bragging about feeling so great ;-)

Maternity Clothes?
I ordered 2 pairs of pants and a couple of shirts from Old Navy and they arrived today. I know maternity clothes aren't meant to be on the edge of fashion...but ugh, can't they be a little cuter...and with normal inseams. Pregnancy does not in fact make one taller (I wish)

Sleep?
I have been sleeping great...and sleeping in, thanks to Winter Break! My only complaint is my back is really stiff and sore when I wake up. I can't wait to sleep on my back/stomach again!

Missing Anything?
Other than sleeping on my back/stomach, not a thing!

Craving?
Nothing in particular...my appetite has definitely returned, so pretty much anything will do.

Aversions?
See above...I will pretty much eat anything.

Emotions?
I had a little break-down on Saturday...it had been a very long and busy week and I was trying to get ready for a holiday party that required a dress...and let's just say between the exhaustion and not having many clothes that fit I was not in a good place. Other than that, Winter Break has me in a fabulous mood :)

Movement?
Goodness...this little man has gotten STRONG! His kicks and pokes are so strong and shake my whole belly! It's fun to feel him, and even cooler to see him moving around. This weekend I definitely felt a body part poke out...it was more than just he regular little pokes, it was like he did a full on flip and shoved an elbow out! It's weird...but also...SO SO cool!

Best Moment of the week?
Walking out of school Tuesday afternoon and starting WINTER BREAK!!! I was in desperate need of a reset and some time to get things checked off my to-do list!

Pregnancy Brain Moments?
I just about walked out the door without my lunch AGAIN this week...you would think with my appetite being what it is right now I wouldn't forget something so important.

Looking forward to?
Hosting Christmas Eve at our house and spending the whole weekend with our families!

Projects/Baby Gear purchased?
Our crib came in, and we went and picked it up and got it all put together!

Running?
It has been BRUTALLY cold and icy this week so I put in some quality time with ol' Millie girl. It's not my favorite way to get in a run...but it's better than nothing...AND I find that the treadmill is lower impact so it's easier on my hips.

My initial goal for running was to make it through the second trimester...and as that date gets closer I get more and more confident that not only will I be able to keep running, but that I will be able to run through much of 3rd trimester too! I'm not running far...or fast...but I have (finally) come to terms  with  that at this point running (even just a few miles) is running..and if taking it slow and steady keeps me running I'll do it :-)

24 Weeks: 6 months...already? Gulp!

6 months...well that happened fast! I can't believe we only have 16 more weeks until we get to meet our sweet little boy!!

How far along?
24 weeks

How big is baby?
A cantaloupe (this seems like a BIG jump from a grapefruit!) or a GI Joe doll ~11.8"l  and 1.3 lbs

What's baby up to this week?
His see through skin is gradually becoming more opaque and he has a new pink glow thanks to the small capillaries that have recently formed. His lungs are also producing the substance that will make them inflate when he has to breathe on his own.

Symptoms?
I have had some leg cramping...and one morning it even woke me up. I woke
up from a dead sleep, jumped out of bed and yelled out in pain....poor AJ...pretty sure I scared the crap out of him! Other than that I have had some minor backaches and some fatigue...but I think that is more due to how busy we have been lately.

Maternity Clothes?
I ordered my first maternity Stitch Fix...and wasn't overly impressed...the price tag on these items was a little much for me. I am not looking to spend $50+ on a maternity shirt that I won't be able to wear for very long...needless to say I was really disappointed. #ShameOnYouStitchFix

Sleep?
Sleep was 50/50 this week...we had a busy weekend with 2 late nights and have been pretty busy all week so I have been extra tired. HOWEVER, I fall asleep the minute my head hits the pillow and minus my 1-2 bathroom breaks I am sleeping really well. I have had some minor back pain when I wake up (I just wanna sleep on my back or tummy) but other than that it's been good.

Missing Anything?
We did lots of celebrating this last weekend and I would have killed for a beer, a glass of wine, or a margarita #IAintPicky

Craving?
Not really craving anything...but my preference right now is for sweets. We went out to dinner this weekend and I wanted to skip dinner and order cake instead...which is very unlike me.

Aversions?
Not a thing...I pretty much like all food at this point.

Emotions?
It's been a little up and down this week...I love the holidays and I love spending time with friends and family, but we have had something going on just about every night and being the homebody I am, I am really craving a quiet evening (or 2) at home.

Movement?
He is an active little guy and his kicks keep getting stronger and stronger! I just love getting to feel his little kicks and pokes all day long.

Best Moment of the week?
AJ's best friend from college and his wife had their little twin boys on Monday and everyone is happy, healthy, and oh so precious!! Our boys will only be about 4 mos apart and I already foresee many years of friendship and maybe some trouble in their future :)

Pregnancy Brain Moments?
I walked out of the house without my lunch yet again this week...I am such a zombie in the mornings it's always something ;)

Looking forward to?
Can I say Christmas Break again? I have one full day and a half day left until 2 weeks of sweet freedom and relaxation! I.CANNOT.WAIT!

Projects/Baby Gear purchased?
Our glider/recliner FINALLY arrived...there was a mix-up with the delivery and our package was lost! Luckily, they replaced it and shipped us a new one at no charge.

Running?
I ran my first 5k (since getting pregnant) on Sunday morning and I noticed that it was a little harder to catch my breath and my poor legs were so sore and tired. That extra weight is affecting my more than I imagined it would. Other than that I ran a couple of other times...but my new motto is "slow and steady" :)

23 Weeks: Glowing...or am I just sweating?

Can I bottle up this second trimester bliss and keep it till April? I'm hoping to remain a passenger on the easy train for as long as possible!

How far along?
23 weeks

How big is baby?
A grapefruit or a fashion Barbie doll (or "Ken" according to AJ) ~11.3" and 1.10 lbs

What's baby up to this week?
Baby is forming little nipples (yep, it said that, lol!) and his face is fully formed and now all he needs is a little extra fat to fill it out. He can listen to my voice and heartbeat and even loud sounds like cars honking and dogs barking....we may or may not have tested this out while playing fetch with Grace...yep, he definitely moved around more when she barked ;)

Symptoms?
According to my pregnancy app this is the week I can expect thicker, shinier hair and the "glow" they always talk about. I have had several people at work say such sweet things to me this week...which is good for a girl's self-esteem...and one of their compliments was that I was glowing...while I will take that compliment, I kind of think it's just sweat...boy has my internal body temp turned it up a notch this week...I'm feeling ever grateful for a winter pregnancy ;)

Maternity Clothes?
Jeans, Leggings, and my workout pants only...but it might be time to get some tops. My shirts still fit...but they fit VERY weird.

Sleep?
Sleep has continued to be great! I have gotten used to the nightly bathroom break and have zero trouble falling back asleep.

Missing Anything?
Having my clothes fit normally...it takes me FOREVER to get dressed these days!

Craving?
I had a dream about taco salad one night and woke up really wanting one...at 2AM...and then thought about Chinese food for an entire day. After months of not having much of an appetite I think it's safe to say it has returned and I am not picky when it comes to eating nowadays ;)

Aversions?
Not a thing...I even chanced a few cookies one day and didn't end up with indigestion or heartburn, so maybe that has passed :) #FingersCrossed

Emotions?
Minus one evening where I was feeling very anti-social I have been feeling GREAT!

Movement?
Lots of movement all day long! I love feeling him kick...but it still catches me off guard sometimes...and on top of feeling him moving we can now see him. The other night he was moving around quite a bit so I pulled up my shirt and it was like an alien was trying to escape...AJ and I couldn't believe it...he is a strong little guy!

Best Moment of the week?
Holiday Homes tour with the gals...I think this is year 7 of this tradition, and it was just as fun as always...except I couldn't partake in the wine tasting.

Pregnancy Brain Moments?
Little miscues here and there...but who really needs to know what the correct term for a garage is? That "parking spot thing at your house" works just fine ;)

Looking forward to?
Christmas break...only 7 more school days until 2 full weeks off!

Projects/Baby Gear purchased?
I ordered a Wubanub from our Amazon registry so I would qualify for their welcome box...the Wubanub is this darling Reindeer (which I thought was a moose?) and it was only available for a limited time...so I of course HAD to have it.

Running?
Running is business as usual! I am getting slower (and bigger) by the day...but I have had zero hip/pelvic pain so I call that a win!

Life Lately: November

You guys...November...where did it go? I swear I blinked and it was over!

I feel like we didn't do much in November and even if we did, I didn't take any photographic proof...so therefore it never happened :)

I love, love, love this time of year and all the fun holiday type stuff, but sometimes I find myself having too much fun to document and take photos, which I suppose is a good problem to have...

We started out the month with a day with our favorite nieces...well at least I did...AJ helped Brandon lay tile in the bathrooms and I got to head to Hobby Lobby with Caitie and the girls :) Fin ended up with a fun Christmas painting project and she so graciously "let me" paint with her.

She also informed me that it is okay to paint with both sides of the brush...I just love her rebel attitude ;)

We celebrated Vanessa's birthday with some karaoke...

and unfortunately this is the only photo I have...I ended up taking other videos/pictures on SnapChat and forgot to save/download them :(

With the temps cooling down we spent a lot of time snuggled up on the couch and in bed with the queen  ;)

We got to see our sweet baby BOY

We prepped for a fun gender reveal with our families...and I learned that I can fit approximately 10 small balloons and 3 large balloons in my car...not comfortably.

We got to share our exciting news with our family and friends!!

We celebrated Friendsgiving...

and played a riveting game of Oregon Trail...although being in charge of reading and enforcing the rules isn't all that fun when everyone else has been enjoying the keg of beer and you are sipping on water ;)

We celebrated Thanksgiving with the family...and we all had fun, despite what it looks like ;)

I used Thanksgiving break to finish up some painting in the nursery...I was in charge of touching up the trim and the closet doors.

Thanksgiving break mornings were spent a little like this...

It was so nice having a 5-day weekend that AJ and I got to enjoy together.

For our official monthly date...things got crazy...

Chinese food...

with extra soy sauce...

and decorating for Christmas!

The tree is my favorite part!

Ladders and klutzy pregnant women do not go hand in hand...so AJ was on tree topper duty again this year.

I wish we could keep the tree up all year long!

After getting the house all ready for Christmas we worked on getting the nursery painted...

Again, no ladders for this girl...which I didn't mind ONE bit!

I got the majority of our Christmas shopping done on Cyber Monday this year...and let me tell you it was the BEST decision I have ever made!

Time just went by too fast in November...and I am hoping things slow down in December, but I highly doubt it! It's my favorite time of the year and it always goes by way too fast! I suppose what they say is true...time flies when you're having fun :)

November Book Review

I'm a few days late posting this...mostly because my fourth book for the month was still "in progress" up until yesterday...I'm usually a stickler for rules...but I also really hate not meeting my goal of 4 books per month...so this time I am giving myself some slack. In reality I finished MOST of the book in November...and the last few chapters on December 3rd...and it's my resolution...so my rules ;)

This month was the end of a dry spell for sure...the last few months I have read several less than stellar books and too many chick-lit/beach read type books that left me wanting more.

This month I read 3 of the best books I have read all year (top 10 for sure) and my fourth book...well...it left a little to be desired, but I suppose you can't win them all :)

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/28587957-small-great-things

The first book I read this month was one I have had on hold at the library for months. I love, love, love Jodi Picoult, and clearly everyone else in Johnson County does too! This book was more than worth the wait though. It is your typical Picoult novel taking place mostly in a court room debating a highly controversial matter. This particular matter dealt with race, and was one that definitely made me think. I was reading it around the time of the election and it helped me to understand some of the feelings minorities felt. As a white middle class woman I can in no way begin to understand the way it feels to be judged based on the color of my skin...but this book opened my eyes to things I unintentionally ignored or didn't think about. Definitely a book worth reading!

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/26722820-the-curious-charms-of-arthur-pepper

This book was just plain adorable...and heart-wrenching...and uplifting...and did I say adorable? The main character in this book is 60 year old Arthur Pepper who has recently become a widow and is struggling to live life without his wife. A year after her death he finds a charm bracelet that he never knew she had and that is the catalyst for a little adventure Arthur goes on to learn more about wife. I found myself smiling, crying, and cheering Arthur on throughout this book. When the book was over I was sad to say goodbye to his character.

My third book is another favorite author of mine...and another LONG wait on the library holds list. I zipped through this book in record time. I read many reviews before I began reading it and I have to say I was a little hesitant, several people didn't like it. It is not your typical love story (although it does include somewhat of a love story) and is more about the unraveling of a relationship and the journey to healing and picking up the pieces. I loved this book from beginning to end...although it was a bit predictable (but aren't all of his books?)

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8810838-you-ll-lose-the-baby-weight

I picked this book up randomly at the library...and I wish I had promptly put it back down. The title and the witty description on the back of the book had me thinking this would be a humorous look at the not so glamorous parts of pregnancy...and while I would say it was sort of that way...I found myself more annoyed with the author than anything. No...pregnancy isn't glamorous, and some stuff just flat out stinks...but I felt like instead of laughing about it and making light of those moments she turned it into a scare tactic book. I thought the writing was disjointed and disorganized and I had trouble relating to anything she said.

I read Jenny McCarthy's "Belly Laughs" a few months ago and would recommend that over this ANY day!

So that's November...I'm hoping to get a few more read in December with the approach of winter break! My original goal was 52 books for 2016 and I ended up hitting that about 13 books ago, so I changed my goal to 70 books which means I need 5 for December...think I can do it? I sure hope so :)

22 Weeks: Life is good...oh so good!

Our baby boy is growing and kicking like crazy! His momma is learning to embrace the bump (and accepting that her clothes just don't fit the same) and loving every minute of this second trimester bliss!

How far along?
22 weeks

How big is baby?
An coconut or water bottle ~10.9" and 15.1oz

What's baby up to this week?
He is looking more and more like a newborn and sleeping 12-14 hours per day, but when he is awake he is trying to touch anything he can, whether it be his face, body or umbilical cord, he is working on his physical abilities and motor skills by practicing movement...which this mama is loving!

Symptoms?
A little back pain and shortness of breath if I am talking or going up the stairs...it's getting crowded in that tiny torso of mine! Other than that though I have been feeling great!

Maternity Clothes?
Still just wearing my jeans and leggings...and I did end up buying a maternity coat for recess this winter...and I LOVE IT!! It's the kind of coat that I will be wearing long after baby is born because it is so warm and is really long so it keeps me extra warm! I also a couple pairs of maternity running leggings on Cyber Monday and it's amazing what a difference it made!

Sleep?
I have been sleeping great all week! I wake up a few times to adjust or use the restroom, but I promptly fall right back asleep!

Missing Anything?
Not a thing!

Craving?
I've had quite a few bagels and cream cheese this week...I can't seem to get enough #CarbMe

Aversions?
Sweets are still aggravating my heartburn/indigestion so I have been trying to steer clear...which is kind of a bummer because my sweet tooth has returned with a vengeance.

Emotions?
I'm feeling really great...and finally understanding what people meant by the "honeymoon" phase of pregnancy. Dare I be that annoying pregnant lady that says she kind of likes being pregnant? ;)

Movement?
He is moving around all the time and I cannot get enough! I love those little reminders all day :) I'm really starting to feel him from the outside and even AJ has been able to feel him a few times, which is pretty fantastic :)

Best Moment of the week?
Getting the walls painted in the nursery...it's officially the LAST room we will need to paint for awhile and that was a great feeling! Also the color we picked turned out beautifully! I like it even more than I thought I would.

Pregnancy Brain Moments?
Not really anything...I have been sleeping well and don't feel overly tired like before so I think that has helped!

Looking forward to?
We didn't get to go crib shopping last weekend, so we are going this weekend instead and I CAN.NOT.WAIT! The nursery is painted, we have the rocker ordered, and the crib is the last big thing before I can start decorating.

Projects/Baby Gear purchased?
We were really productive this last weekend thanks to Thanksgiving break...we got the room painted and ordered the rocker.

Running?
Running continues to be fabulous! I haven't had any hip or pelvic pain...but that is probably because I haven't run more than 4 miles at a time...but if that is what it takes I will do it! I am starting to notice the extra pounds though...those 7 extra lbs feels like a lot more when I am running! I can't imagine how much slower I will get as he (and I) get bigger and bigger!

21 Weeks: Walking on Sunshine!

Baby Smith is growing, growing, growing...and so is his mommy! Starting to look like more of a bump in my clothing and less like a few extra burritos :)

How far along?
21 weeks

How big is baby?
An endive (??) or a ball cap 10.5" (from head to toe) and 12.7 oz

What's baby up to this week?
He's continuing to produce meconium, the black tarry substance that makes up his first poop. His skin is still a bit see through, and it has developed wrinkles that allow for internal expansion once baby fat starts to fill in #BringOnAChubbyBaby

Symptoms?
Nothing except my expanding waist line!

Maternity Clothes?
Still just jeans and leggings.

Sleep?
Sleep has been fabulous...I still wake up once a night to go to the bathroom, but I am able to get comfortable and haven't had any insomnia!

Missing Anything?
Getting dressed easily in the morning...my choices have been narrowed significantly, and even stuff that still technically fits, fits very strange.

Craving?
My appetite has increased significantly this week...I find myself snacking more during the day than before.

Aversions?
Not a thing!

Emotions?
HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY! I find myself just randomly smiling throughout the day thinking about our little boy!

Movement?
Still lots of pokes and kicks during the day...nothing consistent enough for AJ to feel yet. I feel him kick and then tell AJ to feel...and then the little stinker doesn't kick again...at least not until his daddy has given up ;)

Best Moment of the week?
Thanksgiving celebrations with family...and a 5-day weekend! Sleeping in was something I took plenty of advantage of! The countdown to winter break has officially begun!

Pregnancy Brain Moments?
I would say the biggest thing I notice is not being able to come up with words...I will be in mid-conversation and find myself completely blanking out. People think I am nuts ;)

Looking forward to?
Picking out a crib and a rocker for the nursery! Our plan is to paint this weekend and then it's time to get the ball rolling! #ICannotWait

Projects/Baby Gear purchased?
We didn't buy anything this week...although I have had to keep myself from buying everysinglething for our sweet little boy! This little boy is going to be so spoiled!

Running?
Running has been great...finding clothes to run in? #NotSoMuch I think I have gotten to the point where my pants no longer want to fit. I tried rolling them down, but then I get a case of plumbers crack as I run...and it isn't comfortable. It's time to start shopping for maternity workout pants!

IT'S A...

From the very beginning AJ and I knew we wanted to find out the gender of our baby...and we knew we wanted it to be a private moment just between the two of us.

Going into the appointment I had no idea what to expect or how special it would actually be...and I am so glad we made the decision to find out just the two of us, because it was a moment I will treasure forever <3

While we didn't want to have a gender reveal where WE were the ones surprised, we still wanted to get everyone together and do a reveal of some kind...so we decided to surprise the grandparents with a little reveal brunch.

What we didn't think through completely, was the absolute torture we would go through keeping this secret from our friends and family. Our appointment was Wednesday, and we planned the brunch with our families for Saturday morning...2 days...no biggie right?

RIIIIIIGGGGHHHTTTT....you are talking to the girl who has literally told her mom EVERYTHING from the day she was born. Throw in the fact that this was such EXCITING NEWS...and these two days were absolute torture.

I got some funny texts from my mom in the days leading up to the reveal...

"I'm sitting in your driveway looking for pink or blue lights"
(she wasn't really...she isn't that creepy lol!)

"I would be able to tell by your face...send me a picture"
(we both tend to wear our emotions/feelings/thoughts on our face)

"Can you give me a hint?"

"39 1/2 more hours"

So, as you can see...she is a persistent one ;) #ThatsWhyILoveHer #GrammyIsExcited

Wednesday night we did send out a quick sonogram pic to the family letting them know that everything looked good and that Baby Smith was healthy...and the responses were priceless

Evan: "So am I going to be an aunt or an uncle?"
Grandpa Fred: "Ahem, HE is sure getting big!
Grammy: This does not show me anything, but SHE is adorable"
Jenni: "OMG look at her little nose"
Grandma Cheryl: "Oh my! Glad SHE is healthy, happy, and growing"

So you can see quite there is quite the divide in predictions here ;)

The wait from Wednesday to Saturday was not an easy one...but it was oh so worth it! Words cannot even begin to express what a special moment it was sharing our exciting news, so I will just let the video speak for itself :)

Seriously...I tear up every time I watch this video, it was so much fun getting to see first hand the surprise on our parents faces. My favorite part is my dad's little celebration...he clearly isn't excited about his first grandson :)

I usually drop the ball on taking photos at our little get togethers...but for my little boy I tried a little harder to document this day of celebration :)

Finley has been "team girl" from day one...but the night before she switched her vote to boy and has decided that "Louis is a pretty good name"

Baby Goose is getting a little buddy...and he is much more excited than he looks :)

Our little boy is pretty blessed with the BEST cousins and Auntie :)

The Grandmas...Cheryl wore blue and pink because she couldn't decide...and my mom went with black to remain neutral.

Our little boy has some pretty great role-models in his life :)

Great-grandparents x 5 now!

Excited to raise our sweet boys together <3

The grandpa's are already making plans for dirt bikes and golf clubs :)

My dad isn't excited AT ALL ;)

Neither is Fred ;)

I was blessed with the best mom...and now our little boy gets to have the best Grammy :)

And this guy is pretty excited too...he will be the BEST daddy to our sweet little boy :)

Re-purposing is their specialty ;)

This face melts me every time :)

In all the chaos I tried really hard to get some good family photos and good "announcement shots"

All in all we got a few ones...but it was a bit hectic so they didn't turn out the best. At least I can say I tried :)

This day was better than I could have ever hoped for! So much love and excitement surrounding this little boy already!
