April/May Book Review

April was not a good month for reading...

You see, I spent most of April adapting to my new sleep (or lack of sleep) schedule, so any time I picked up a book my eyes would close. While I did manage to read one book...I didn't feel like it deserved it's very own blog post...hence the April/May mash up :-)

At the beginning of the year when I set my goal of reading 2 books per month, I knew I would have to be flexible with this, especially once baby was here. I started out the year strong and built up a bit of a cushion, so even with my lack of reading in March and April I am still doing pretty good.

My hands are a little full these days (literally) so I have been reading lots of e-books because they are easier to read while nursing or snuggling my sweet baby while he naps. I have also started running again, and reading on the treadmill always makes it a bit more bearable.

While I only read one book in April, I managed to read 4 in May...not really sure how that happened, but I ain't mad ;)

There isn't a lot of variety in my books this month...lots of light, easy, chick-lit type books which is exactly what I needed in my sleep deprived state...focusing on complicated plots/story lines just wasn't in the cards for me this month.

Here are this month's books...

I had high hopes for this book...I mean, it's Sophie Kinsella...her books are great, right? Well...some of them are...but this one? Eh...it gets a 3 out of 5 for me. The characters fell flat, the story-line was juvenile, and the plot was very predictable...and while it wasn't exactly up to par for me, I do have to say it wasn't the most terrible book I have ever read. I think it's just been a few too many years since I have read a Kinsella book and maybe I expected too much? It was a light read filled with funny parts and a quirky main character...so I suppose if you like that sort of thing you might like this book.

I am always on the fence about Elin Hilderbrand...I have LOVED some of her books and hated others...there isn't really an in-between. This book was the 3rd and final book in a series that I read last year and really enjoyed, so when it finally became available at the library I jumped at the chance to read it. I definitely enjoyed this book, much like I did the previous 2 in the series. It's light-hearted, quirky, and fun...and definitely worth a read. You do have to read the first 2 before however, and let me tell you once you read those you will have to read this one because each book kind of leaves you hanging and dying to know how it all turns out :)

My heart still breaks a little when I think about this book...and while I LOVED it (as I do all of Sally Hepworth's books) it probably wasn't my best decision considering I just had a baby and those hormones are sticking around making me extra weepy. I loved this book and I would say it was easily my favorite from the month. Sally Hepworth never disappoints!

I am a huge Liane Moriarty fan and I think I have read just about every one of her books...so when I was perusing the e-book selection online and came across this one (with not wait list) I immediately downloaded it. While this book is very different from her other novels I still enjoyed it.

This book...ugh. I am not even sure where to begin with my review. Let's just start with the fact that I gave it 2 stars...which I rarely (if ever) do...and I have to say 2 stars was awfully generous. I actually read this book pretty fast, but I think it was because I was either a) hoping it would get better or b) just trying to get it over with...I'm leaning more towards b. This book failed in so many ways...now, I don't read romance novels and had no idea that was the direction this one would take. The author spent 95% of the book trying to built up the sexual tension between the two characters and then when they finally hooked up it was laugh out loud funny...no joke, I laughed my way through the "steamy" sex scene. On top of that there were SO MANY (way too many) references to how small or big the characters were. At one point Lucy had to be helped up onto a bar stool in a diner because she is so tiny. #EyeRoll I mean really, this book was one of the most ridiculous books I have ever read...I read it on recommendation from other people...so I guess it could just be me and my lack of appreciation for romance novels...so take my opinion with a grain of salt :)

That's all for this month! I am currently about half-way into my current book and I am LOVING it! Lil' B has his 2 month shots today...so I have a feeling we will be snuggled up on the couch all afternoon, so I may get some extra reading in :)
